Introduction

The Infection Prevention and Control Department is led by the Director of Infection Prevention and Control who is also the Medical Director.

The Infection Prevention and Control Team produce policies and protocols aimed at preventing the spread of infection within the acute hospital setting.

The teamĀ is involved in reviewing positive microbiology reports for all hospital inpatients and providing specialist advice on these reports. They work in close liaison with the Patient Access and Discharge Liaison Team and Matrons to manage any outbreak of infection e.g. viral gastroenteritis. Teaching and training all disciplines of staff on the practice and principles of infection prevention and control is a major part of the role. Audit and advising on new buildings and the purchase of equipment and medical devices.

The remit of the Infection Prevention and Control Department encompasses delivery of patient care from the hospital gates to the involvement of waste from the hospital.
