Patients who are in hospital over the Jubilee weekend will not miss out on the celebrations.
The catering team has put together a special Jubilee themed menu and on Tuesday, patients will start the day by having “Buckingham Breakfast”. At lunchtime they will be able to choose from the “Balmoral Lunch” menu and in the evening from the “Sandringham Tea” menu, which includes cake made specially to celebrate the Jubilee. For more details of the menu click here .
The Trust was very fortunate to have her Majesty the Queen officially open the Chester Wing and in particular our Maternity Unit in December 2000 and in recognition of a momentous day for both parents and the country as we celebrate the Diamond Jubilee, City Hospitals Sunderland will be presenting a gift to babies born on Tuesday, 5 June. The unique baubles have been handcrafted locally to represent a permanent reminder of this unique celebration. The birth of a baby is always special and we hope this gift will serve as a special reminder of these two happy events.
In addition, those patients who have attended the Trust’s Fracture Clinic over the last week have had the pleasure of seeing the super-sized Jubilee themed collage (pictured) which has been produced by the children at Cassop Primary School in Durham.
The collage was inspired by one of the school’s pupils, 7 year old Grace, who thought about the Sunderland Royal Hospital when talking about the royal anniversary in class. Grace has a special link to the fracture clinic after she had a brace fitted by one of the Trust’s orthopaedic surgeons, Gavin DeKiewiet when she was just 6 days old.
