City Hospitals Sunderland (CHS) has been consistently one of the best performing Trusts in the country for median (average) referral to treatment times.  We regularly report some of the lowest median waits of any provider Trust in the North East and are also much lower when compared to the national average.  The Trust regularly maintains median waits from the initial referral to final treatment of around 6 to 7 weeks for patients eventually admitted into hospital, and only 3 to 4 weeks for patients who are treated without being admitted to hospital.

The Trust is not complacent though, we are constantly working with all of our specialties to reduce waiting times so that we can provide the best service possible to the patient.

City Hospitals actively monitors its waiting times for outpatient appointments, diagnostic tests, inpatient / daycase admissions, as well as the entire referral to treatment pathway, and regularly reports on these at Executive Board and Board of Directors meetings.
